About us

Transform is a Technology and Data consultancy that defines, designs, builds, and operates products and services for our customers.

We work with our clients to optimise, accelerate, and transform their digital, data and technology programmes, from augmenting teams to defining and delivering new services and operating models. We deliver outcomes not outputs, building capability in client organisations.

In the public sector, we wrote the DirectGov review for Martha Lane-Fox in 2011, a report that helped start the revolution towards User Centred and Agile methods for delivering services.Ā  Since then, we have designed and built over 50 public sector services, helping our clients pass over 90 Government Digital Service assessments.

In the private sector we operate in multiple sectors with a strong focus on retail, financial services and automotive. We help our clients define their digital and data strategies, and then design, build, and operate them in cost-effective and user-centric ways.

We are part of the Next 15 group, a multi-national organisation spanning over 25 brands.Ā  We combine the financial robustness and breadth of services of a large organisation, with the nimbleness and innovation of a smaller brand.

The Role:

We are looking for a dynamic Senior Frontend Developer who will report into one of our Principal Developers.

As a Senior Developer you will be:

  • An expert in software development
  • Able to demonstrate skills in a variety of technical areas using this expertise to help your team work effectively
  • Ā Identifying, testing, and championing the adoption of emerging technologies
  • Working with Principal Developers, the Director of Software Development, and others to help evolve Engine Transformationā€™s engineering strategy

You will work with your team to adopt best-practice engineering principles based upon both our and the clientā€™s agreed standards. You will also help to build our wider software and data engineering capability, inputting into strategy and standards and helping junior developers reach their potential.

Key Skills/Experiences:

As an engineer: We are looking for expertise in the following:

  • JavaScript / ES6, TypeScript
  • Frontend libraries i.e., React
  • Both object-oriented and functional JavaScript
  • Developing and implementing high performing web applications and services
  • Frontend troubleshooting using browser-based developer tools e.g., Chrome Developer Tools
  • Developing RESTful APIs
  • CI/CD process and pipelines i.e., Jenkins
  • Kubernetes, Docker and either AWS, Azure or GCP in a production environment
  • Version control within a team environment e.g., GitHub, GitLab
  • SQL and NoSQL databases and when to use them i.e., Postgres, MongoDB
  • Writing clean code and clear tests and using code quality software e.g., SonarQube
  • Various aspects of testing i.e., integration, functional, unit testing, Pact testing
  • Sharing knowledge, sometimes through pair programming
  • An analytical approach to problem solving
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal, with technical and non-technical teams

Desirable:

  • Working with larger, integrated systems
  • HTML5, CSS3, Redux
  • Frontend frameworks i.e., Angular
  • Test-driven Development (TDD)
  • Testing libraries and frameworks for web applications e.g., Cucumber, Protractor
  • Feature flags and feature management practices e.g., LaunchDarkly
  • Production troubleshooting and log monitoring e.g., Azure Application Insights

  • Building trust with stakeholders and contributing to high-performing teams
  • Awareness of business, engineering, architecture, and infrastructure needs
  • Designing maintainable, scalable, and secure services
  • Enabling delivery without incurring undue technical debt
  • Mentoring junior software engineers
