  • Our business is all about making lives safer, healthier, better managed and mobile

We’re as committed to the positive social outcomes of our customers’ services as they are, which means we put people first. In the interfaces and systems we design, and the software support and development service we provide.

Our story

Across the world, billions of people every day rely on the services and benefits provided by their police, health services, housing and local government. Their home, welfare, wellbeing and security often depend on them.

We create and manage the software that connects people with these services. We design smart interfaces and data processes to ensure services are easy to use, always on, relevant, accurate and trusted.

Using internet, mobile and AI technology, we are designing new tools that maximise the positive experience people have of critical services, and helping to make sure they are safer, healthier, better managed, and able to organise their life on the go.

Working closely with our customers – the service providers – we define people’s needs today and in the future – and work intelligently to continuously improve our software products and data management.

Our software underpins the performance of our customers as they serve their customers. Our constant focus is making sure our software is stable, efficient, cost efficient and secure.

We’re proud of the role we play, improving people’s lives through dependable critical services. With a growing number of customers globally, we’re going to make a difference to millions of people more.

Based in the UK but working around the world, our 2,000 employees help improve the services that matter most.

We are now part of the NEC corporation, a leader in the integration of IT and network technologies that benefit businesses and people worldwide – this brings in new opportunities without limits for growth and innovation.

So why work for us?

Because a great company needs great people, and great people should work at a great company, building a great product, Learn the core business practices that keep the countries wheels turning! Seriously though, you’ll work with and learn from some of the most talented people in the industry. We’d love you to come and join us.

Where will you be working in NPS?

We are creating a new team in our business to build great solutions using the latest technologies based around a Ruby on Rails back end and Sencha ExtJS front end architecture.  The project is to mobilise our core Policing solution to enable police officers to do their job without returning to the office.  You will be part of a team of around 20 – 25 in size and are developing a framework capability for delivering the scalable / mobile app.

You will be a JS specialist working in this team but ideally be either experienced as a full stack developer or willing to learn other skills to support the team effort – potentially Ruby on Rails / Java.

What are we keen on?

Training and Development:

We’re all about helping you reach your full potential, and as a business, we never stop learning. We take pride in what we are delivering, engaging with our fellow team members to deliver the best we can – and being open and learning from our mistakes.

Working effectively:

We encourage each product team to get involved in suggesting the most effective way to get things done. We utilise best practices to make sure everything we do is a collective effort, and we encourage everyone to take an interest of all areas of the business; not a designer, but you’ve thought of a way to more effectively present a data view. The design team are all ears! No code monkeys here, it’s all part of the whole “reach your full potential” stuff we mentioned earlier.

Making you comfortable:

Output, not input. It’s not a problem if you need a little leeway in the way you work, in fact if it helps you out, we’re all for it. We’ve got a cycle to work scheme in place, allow for flexible working hours etc.   You’ll be working in a distributed team, which will meet face to face at least every couple of weeks.  You can choose to work in one of our offices with our other teams or you can work from home.  Whatever works best for you!

Having fun!

We do have fun but you can opt in or out – what for some is the best ever is enforced jollity to others!
