We are now recruiting for a Senior Cloud Engineer for our product engineering team in UK R&D.

About the role

As pioneers in AI within the lighting industry, Helvar is investing to stay ahead of the technology curve and reap the benefits of future business opportunities, in particular the continuous improvement of the wellbeing of end-users.

Embracing Agile methodology, our R&D team of 70 technology experts (Finland + UK offices), are developing new IoT solutions with products ranging from our own hardware and embedded software products and sensors, to mobile applications, developer APIs and cloud services. We also have our own advanced electronics factory, primarily for prototyping and production ramp ups.

As Senior Cloud Engineer, your area of concentration will be inside the mesh network created by each luminaire and their sensors. Each luminaire will learn movement patterns, how people are moving in the space, each one making decisions themselves to predict where people will go, to turn on lights automatically. Helvar has become service platform for innovation in smart buildings and cities.

Main Responsibilities  

As one of our Cloud Engineers, you will be working hand in hand with the controller-developers, you will work in the cloud with AWS databases, internal APIs, and tasks for analytics. There will be the opportunity for you to focus your time and interests across analytics, machine learning, platform development, IoT development. You would focus on the actual platform, the IoT hub. We will need to store the data, build the internal and external APIs inside our cloud service, provide data to the UI through our APIs and low level stacks.

An efficient coder with understanding of algorithmic efficiency, data structures and object oriented programming along with modern design patterns you will write the backend for the APIs, and handle implementation tasks.

As a growing team and you will have lots of room for influencing and choosing technologies, helping us implement our vision of a Cloud First company. Seeking solutions first in the cloud, ensuring speed of development and deployment, platform independent.

Requirements:

  • Professional experience with (any) cloud services, AWS, Azure etc (IoT services is a bonus)
  • Professional experience managing Cloud hosted databases: DynamoDB, DocumentDB .
  • Professional experience in JavaScript/Node.JS development and knowledge of SQL and No-SQL databases
  • Comfortable implementing and using RESTful APIs
  • C#, Java, or other high level languages
  • Knowledge of Serverless architecture and relevant frameworks
  • Experience in Agile and test-driven development
  • Be passionate about delivering an outstanding experience

Location

Our newly refurbished office is based on the South East London/Kent boarder in landscaped gardens with easy access from central London. 35 minutes by train from London Bridge or via car on the A2 at the Dartford Heath Interchange/M25 Junction 2. Free staff shuttle bus from the station, free car park and a subsidised canteen onsite.
