Bloom & Wild are looking for a Front-End Developer to help take our website to the next level. You’ll be a passionate techy with experience of bringing beautiful UI designs into production and delivering great user experiences.

We’re using technologies such as Bower, NPM, Grunt, Sass, Jade, lodash/Underscore and Angular to build out a best-in-class shopping experience for our customers. We’re equally as focused on the stuff under the hood.

We’re taking a mobile first approach to design and performance as we build up our tech stack to support Bloom & Wild’s ambitious growth plans. Personalisation, payments and conversational commerce are among the many ambitious projects in the pipeline.

The Role

  • You’ll be challenged to take ideas from paper sketches to live code, taking responsibility for quality at every step along the way, whether it’s testability, UX or architecture
  • You’ll be as passionate about the product you’re building as the code quality, tracking the impact of the things you ship and iterating to continually improve the end-user’s experience
  • As well as being part of a small, close-knit tech team you’ll work with marketeers, designers, analysts and flower stylists to bring to life the flower gifting experience and help hit our ambitious company-wide goals
  • There are no detailed specs, and stacks of room to make your mark by applying your initiative, expertise and experience to help realise the roadmap

  • You’ll be eager to learn, fast-moving and pragmatic, favouring working and usable MVPs, and using real customer feedback to continuously iterate and improve our tech
  • You’ll have experience of working as a front-end (or full stack) developer, ideally on a customer facing product (e/m-commerce experience is a bonus) and as part of multidisciplinary teams
  • A background in HTML/CSS/JavaScript is important, but more important is your passion for learning and staying up-to-date with the latest technologies (Angular, SASS/LESS, Backbone, Bower, Grunt, Bootstrap/Foundation, or equivalents are especially relevant for this role)
  • You’ll be working with RESTful APIs (ours is written in Ruby on Rails, latest version using JSON), so some experience of this would be helpful
  • A passion for building great user experiences, favouring UIs that simplify and are easy to use, and a mobile-centric approach that stretches beyond responsive design to concerns such as performance and scale-ability
  • Experience with version control tools such as GitHub would be helpful, as would working knowledge of testing tools and frameworks such as QUnit, PhantomJS/CasperJS, Selenium, Cucumber and rspec

  • Professional expertise/challenge – you’ll be joining a young team and get the chance to help shape how we work, while using the latest tools and technologies, becoming an expert in your field
  • Working environment – we’re relaxed, supportive of flexible working, with a strong and collaborative team culture
  • Product – you’ll be working on an app and website that is being used by thousands of people every day, and is growing fast
  • Startup life – you’ll get first hand experience of fundraising, rapid product development, incredible growth curves and everything else that comes with being part of a young, exciting business
  • Technologies – the main ones we’re currently using are Angular, Ruby on Rails, Objective-C, Android, Git, Redis, Codeship, Docker and Postgres. This will continue to grow
  • Tech culture / team – the best bits of Agile, regular retros, stand-ups, code reviews and plenty of chances to pair up and solve problems (no specs here)
  • Kit – a new computer of your choice, widescreen monitor to plug into, comfy chair and whatever tools you need to get the job done
  • Social perks – we’re very sociable, company-wide lunch on the house every Friday (in or out), beers on the house once a month, regular Bloom & Go Wild trips (we recently went to Stockholm for the weekend)
  • Material perks – 25 days holiday, competitive salary (with regular reviews and feedback), potential for a stake in the company (you’ll be helping us grow, so it’s only fair)

How to apply

  • Bloom & Wild are based in the fashionable Chelsea Design Quarter (between Fulham Broadway and Imperial Wharf)
  • All candidates must be fluent in written and spoken English and have the right to work in the UK
  • Please include a CV and links to GitHub/personal projects as part of your application
