We are hiring a:

Database Administrator (PostgreS & Oracle), London

In our international Database Team, we at Berenberg are aiming to develop the PostgreS database management system in our London office. We have sound knowledge of Oracle in our Hamburg office, and are looking for a Database Administrator in our London office who is willing to work in both worlds and share their PostgreS knowledge with the wider team.

Your responsibilities:

  • Create a database environment in PostgreS covering High Availability, including user- and backup-concept
  • Map out the conceptual design for a planned database
  • Monitor performance and manage parameters in order to provide fast responses to front-end users
  • Further refining the physical design to meet system storage requirements
  • Write database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata)
  • Ensure that storage and archiving procedures are functioning correctly
  • Work closely with IT project managers and development teams
  • Communicate regularly with technical, applications and operational staff to ensure database integrity and security
  • Commission and install new applications and customise existing applications in order to make them fit for purpose
  • Manage the security and disaster recovery aspects of a database
  • Contact database¬†vendor¬†for¬†technical support
  • Transfer of PostgreS knowledge to your colleagues in Hamburg
  • Familarise with our Oracle database environment
  • Administration of our database (PostgreS & Oracle) in the London and Hamburg office

Your profile:

  • Senior expert level PostgreS database administrator with previous Oracle experience
  • Good organisational skills
  • Flexibility and adaptability
  • Willingness to keep up to date with developments in new technology
  • Familiar with collaboration tools Jira and Confluence
  • Familiar with Agile methodology
  • Ability to work in fast paced environment and to make sound decisions under pressure of time and ability to prioritise
  • Experience with PostgreSQL under Docker container is desirable however not essential
  • Willingness to undertake business trips within Europe (approx. 1/month) and work close together with both English and German developer teams
  • The successful candidate will be required to spend their first 4 to 6 weeks in the Hamburg office as part of the induction period.
