Beamly is a digital marketing and technology agency based in London, UK and New York, United States. We are wholly owned by Coty (an S&P 500 company), but maintain an independent working environment and culture.


We are seeking an experienced and confident Senior Data Engineer to help build out our fledgling Data Platform team. The Data Platform mission is to maximise the effectiveness of using data to drive our business within Beamly. You will play a leading role in designing, implementing and supporting a first-class data ingest and processing infrastructure in the cloud, as well as building out reusable patterns, tooling, best practices and documentation that enables product teams to build data based solutions quickly and effectively.

Whilst there is an operational aspect to this role, it is much more than that. You’ll be coding every day and will consult and work with product teams to help deliver data-led solutions. You’ll bring with you real-world experience of working in a data-led organisation building ingest, ETL and big data processing pipelines for both batch and streaming data using technologies such as Spark and Kafka. You will get as much job satisfaction from enabling other people to be effective as you do from coding things yourself.

The Role

  • Discovering, designing, implementing and documenting common and scalable patterns for data ingest, processing and output
  • Consulting with product managers, analysts, data scientists and data engineers within product teams to help them be effective
  • Play a leading role in building first-of-a-kind data solutions
    Architect, implement and support the foundational technologies of the Beamly data platform
  • Design and implement data governance solutions including a data catalogue
  • Work with our SRE team to ensure our data platform and solutions are effectively monitored and alerted on and participate in the Beamly engineering on-call rota

What you will bring to the role

  • You’ve worked on data-led products or solutions and bring real-life experience of building ingest, ETL, data processing pipelines to solve business problems using technologies including Spark and Kafka
  • Experience using Spark, Airflow and other associated technologies
  • Programming knowledge ideally in Python, Scala and SQL
  • A high degree of pragmatism
  • Understanding of agile and lean development tenets
  • Ability to communicate as effectively with business stakeholders as with as deep technical teams
  • Ability to perform problem determination in complex technical environments
  • Experience working in an agile product team that practices continuous delivery
  • Knowledge of some of the technologies in use at Beamly

Candidates with direct experience in building data solutions in digital marketing/ad-tech, especially involving recommendation engines and machine-learning approaches will be particularly suitable.
