Beamly is a digital marketing and technology agency based in London, UK and New York, United States. We are owned by Coty, but maintain an independent working environment and culture.


As a Data Engineer within our Business Intelligence team you will help accelerate efforts to maximise the effectiveness of our insight analysts by making sure that data gets into our Data Warehouse and can be used effectively. You will take existing data sets on S3 and write ETLs to get them into Amazon Redshift, Datorama and other locations and will also build ingest to bring new data sources into S3 when required. You will work closely with analysts to improve their overall workflow and experience whilst also working with the wider data engineering efforts within Beamly to drive our data platform forward.

Our data stack includes:

  • Amazon Web Services including S3 and Redshift
  • Datorama
  • Qubole (Airflow, Spark, Zeppelin, Hive, Presto)
  • Confluent Platform (Kafka, Kafka Streams)
  • Python and Scala based codebases
  • Git, Github, Go CD, Ansible

What you’ll do

  • Work with your Project Manager, analysts and data owners to understand and ingest data sources
  • Develop and implement robust data ingest and ETL pipelines using appropriate technologies
  • Manage the use of Data Warehousing technologies and evaluate new technologies as required
  • Database Administration duties; including managing user access, optimising performance and maintaining documentation
  • Help the team understand and implement best practices

What you’ll bring to the role

  • Practical experience in working with one or more Data Warehousing technologies, especially Amazon Redshift
  • Practical experience in designing and implementing batch data ingest and ETL pipelines
  • Experience using Spark, Airflow and other associated technologies
  • Programming knowledge ideally in Python and SQL
  • A high degree of pragmatism
  • Understanding of agile and lean development tenets
  • Ability to communicate as effectively with business stakeholders as with technical teams
  • Ability to perform problem determination in complex technical environments

It’s a plus if you bring

  • Experience working in an agile product team that practices continuous delivery
  • Experience with the Qubole data platform
  • Knowledge of some of the technologies in use at Beamly, including: Amazon Web Services, Git, github, Ansible, Kafka
  • Experience working with data within a consumer goods marketing/retail environment especially from social and advertising platforms.

How our application process works

When applying, you’ll move through three short phases:

  1. We’ll check your CV against the requirements for the role.
  2. We will hold an initial phone screen interview lasting 45 minutes where we will run through a set of questions and give you opportunity to find out more about us and the role.
  3. You’ll visit us in Covent Garden for two 45 minute interviews with the team – we will provide information about these in advance.
